January 2009

Well half the year has gone by and we are just starting a study! Not that we have not studied art...we have right along with our history study of the Renaissance. Brunelleschi, Michelangelo,Donatello,Fra Angelico and Fra Filippo Lippi, Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Bertoldo di Giovanni,Jan Van Eyck,Jerome Bosch, Albrecht Durer, Pieter Bruegel, Raphael, the Tak Mahal ( art work in building form!),Titian, St Basils Cathedal. We will continue to do quick studies of the fabulous artist and architects of that period.

The children have requested an indepth study like the one we did on Van Gogh. They want to do Rembrandt. Earlier this year we were able to see a show of Rembrandt etchings and how etchings were done. This really fascinated them and they want to learn more about the artist.

So I am working on an outline of the study which will begin in February.

New Year of School! Renaissance Period!

This year we are studying the Renaissance Period in History so of course we will be doing Renaissance Art and Music Studies also. This is a wonderful period and I am really looking forward to it. Our studies will be more CM in style this year. CM style allows for more time in our day to enjoy the art.

Jimmie has a great Squido page on CM Style. http://www.squidoo.com/cmartiststudy

Georgia O Keeffe

When you take a flower in
your hand and really look
at it, it’s your world for the
moment. I want to give that
world to someone else.
Georgia O’Keeffe

We have found ourselves photographing lots of flowers this first month of summer. When I saw Harmony Art Moms blog on Georgia O Keeffe ( http://harmonyartmom.blogspot.com:80/2008/06/georgia-okeeffe-flowers-and-so-much.html  ) it was as if a light bulb went off. My kids are drawing , painting and taking photos of flowers. A perfect time to study Georgia! Please check out Harmony Art Moms blog.

Who is Georgia O Keeffe?

Wrapping up Our Study

The kids have been working on their final assignments for the Van Gogh Unit Study. We did not finish the very last period of his life and have agreed to do this at a later date. ( stopping while they are still interested and not bored to death!)

We are considering doing digital art and media over the summer. This is new territory for me so summer is a good time to explore.

Pictures coming soon!
